NatWest PCA Awards Dinner

Monday 29th September 2008 saw the return of the most prestigious event in the cricketing calendar - the NatWest PCA Awards - at its new venue, Old Billingsgate in the heart of the City of London.
Over 1100 past and current players, commercial partners and friends of the PCA joined together to celebrate the past season and congratulate the cricketers involved. The Awards are unanimously supported by the players, with the main awards voted for by the players themselves. The Reg Hayter Cup for the NatWest PCA Player of the Year, was won by Kent's Martin van Jaarsveld, who also took home the Friends Provident MVP and the PCA Overall MVP. Ravi Bopara from Essex was announced as NatWest PCA Young Player of the Year beating strong competition from Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad and Joe Denly. A standing ovation greeted retirees Graeme Hick and Darren Gough to the stage, who were presented with the PCA Special Merit Award sponsored by Brit Insurance for their outstanding careers, while Rugby Legend Martin Bayfield did a fantastic job at presenting the Awards.
Significant funds were raised for the growing PCA Benevolent Fund by various fundraising events throughout the evening including a successful auction by Jonny Gould.
The crowd was further entertained at the onsite NatWest PCA Awards After Party in the basement vaults. Graeme Swann's band Dr Comfort and the Lurid Revelations and the Mark Butcher Band put on an amazing show which was a great way to end the season.
The evening was possible due to the valued support from the night's sponsors who included NatWest, ECB, MCC, Brit Insurance, Friends Provident, adidas, Sky Sports, Hewitt and LV. The suppliers for the evening included Wolf Blass, Links of London, Buxton and Hugo Boss.
