Martin van Jaarsveld Still Top Of MVP Table

Martin van Jaarsveld, one of five South Africans in the top ten of the county MVP, holds on to his number one spot overall and in the Friends Provident Trophy (FPT) after notching his third century from seven FPT matches. His 113 off 108 balls against Surrey at Canterbury helped Kent stay top of the South East division and means he has scored 480 runs off 465 balls in the competition and the small matter of 704 runs overall.

Van Jaarsveld's county colleague Yasir Arafat occupies second spot overall. The Pakistan all-rounder is ranked second in the FPT MVP, too, after another six wickets across two matches this week.  He took 4-29 against Essex and 2-55 in the high scoring affair versus Surrey, which has taken his tally to 19 wickets in the FPT, 29 in all cricket.

After two weeks spent playing against New Zealand, Ravi Bopara got his points moving with an unbeaten 85 in Essex's win against the Middlesex Crusaders in the FPT. The early leader of the county MVP after the first couple of rounds, Bopara is still ranked eighth in the Championship (LVCC) despite only having played two games, and fourth in the FPT. He occupies third spot overall having amassed a total of 584 runs, 11 wickets and taken four catches.

Former England one-day all-rounder Tim Bresnan is doing his chances of a re-call no harm at all by bouncing back into the top ten this week. The strapping Yorkshireman returned figures of 4-73 and 2-58 against Durham as well as contributing 78 runs in the match. In the FPT match against Scotland he racked up further bowling points with a miserly spell of 1-27 from his ten overs.

Nottinghamshire's Darren Pattinson sprung back into action this week with county colleagues Stuart Broad and Ryan Sidebottom on England duty. Their absence was not felt as Pattinson ran through Lancashire with first innings figures of 6-30. He has been a consistent wicket taker in the FPT, too, his latest return 4-29 against Warwickshire. He has won four of the five matches he has played and taken a total of 26 wickets.

If Nicky Boje isn't contributing with the bat he's taking wickets. The Northants' captain fought hard against Leicestershire returning the respectable figures of 4-120 at Grace Road as the home side racked up 527 in the LVCC. He has 417 runs and 17 wickets across all cricket.

Boje's fellow countryman Hylton Ackerman slips one place to seventh overall despite scores of 62 in the LVCC against Northants and 52 against Ireland in the FPT. He has 670 runs overall.

Neil Carter had a quiet week with the bat but took 4-65 and 2-67 against Deryshire in the LVCC before returning season's best figures of 3-25 against Notts as Warwickshire recorded their first win in the FPT this season. He occupies eighth spot overall with 200 runs and 23 wickets.

Kent's Ryan McLaren climbs to ninth spot but he accumulated valuable bowling points by taking three important Surrey scalps in the high-scoring match at Canterbury against Surrey. He has taken his wicket tally to 22 in addition to 182 runs.

Somerset's Peter Trego is a new entry into the top ten this week. The third England-qualified all-rounder on our list, Trego has thrived under the leadership of Justin Langer. Ranked 27th in the country in last season's MVP with the Australian at the helm, the 26-year-old is making an impression again thanks to a quickfire 41 off 40 balls and 3-49 against the county champions Sussex in the LVCC and 31 and 3-37 against Worcestershire in the FPT. He has 271 runs and 15 wickets overall.
