Bell Stars But Anderson Is Current England MVP
The pitch might have been the eventual winner at Lord's but it should take little away from the efforts of Ian Bell who jumps from eleventh to seventh in the Test MVP after his best performance in an England shirt. Bell, under lots of pressure at the start of the match, scored 199, which represented 33% of England's total. He has now scored 244 runs from the summer's Tests and 443 across all cricket, which sees him in fifth place in the overall MVP.
Jimmy Anderson heads both the overall and the Test MVP despite conceding some ground to England's batsmen. The Lancastrian took two of the three wickets to fall in the South African second innings bringing his tally to 29 for the summer, 22 of which have come in Test cricket.
Stuart Broad's Test best score of 76 earned him plenty of plaudits but more importantly MVP points. His all round contribution across all cricket now reads 223 runs and 18 wickets, which sees him ranked second in the overall MVP. He is in fourth spot in the Test MVP with 195 runs and nine wickets.
Ryan Sidebottom struck a couple of psychological blows for the remainder of the Test series by removing Jacques Kallis in both innings at Lord's. The left-arm swinger is just behind Anderson in the Test MVP with 20 wickets, while his economy rate should not be overlooked either. Sidebottom conceded just 1.5 runs per over in the second innings and has gone for just over 2.4 runs per over all summer in Test match cricket. He is ranked fourth in the overall MVP.
Of the six centuries scored at Lord's the most flamboyant belonged to the irrepressible Kevin Pietersen. KP's 152 was a quarter of England's total earning him 25 points, while his wicket of Dale Steyn earned him a further two. He is England's leading run scorer in Tests with 338, which sees him up to fifth in the Test MVP, and has scored 513 -70 more runs than any other England batsman - across all forms consolidating his third spot in the overall MVP.
Monty Panesar is up to third in the Test MVP despite 60 fruitless overs in South Africa's second innings. Panesar's 4-74 in the first innings took his Test match tally to 13 wickets.
