Harmison Enters Top 10
Steve Harmison gave the England selectors a healthy nudge this week as he helped bowl Durham to victories in the Championship (LVCC) and the Pro40, which has seen him enter the top ten at number five in the overall MVP. The big fast bowler took 2-31 and 4-102 against Surrey at Guildford and 4-31 from his eight overs against Middlesex at Uxbridge. He has jumped to second place in the LVCC MVP averaging over 23 points per game and his 40 wickets have helped Durham move to the top of the Championship table. He is the leading wicket taker across all cricket with 72 scalps.
Martin van Jaarsveld continues to head the rest of his peers in three of the MVP categories. He tops the Friends Provident Trophy MVP, the LVCC MVP and the Overall MVP where he has extended his lead to 33 points. He might be difficult to catch as Kent still have the FPT final and T20 finals day to contest. The key for the South African has been his ability to convert starts in all forms. He has 1558 runs overall with seven centuries.
Samit Patel lies second with 921 runs and 32 wickets overall. His 134 to save the game against Surrey at Trent Bridge took his tally in the LVCC to 501.
Yasir Arafat has been an ever present in the top ten but he drops to third after Kent lost to Somerset at Taunton. The bowling all rounder who had previously not failed to take a wicket in any innings this season was unable to add to his tally as Somerset proved too strong. He has 503 runs and 63 wickets overall.
Tim Bresnan remains in fourth taking two wickets in Yorkshire's win over Surrey in the Pro40. He has 478 runs and 59 wickets overall.
Ryan ten Doeschate is peaking just at the right time with Twenty20 finals day just around the corner. The Essex all-rounder consolidates sixth place this week after a magnificent 99 not out off just 66 balls as the Eagles tied their Pro40 match with the Foxes at Grace Road. He has 920 and 45 wickets overall
Ryan McLaren is fourth in the LVCC MVP and seventh overall. The South African averages just under 22 points per match in the LVCC and he took another five wickets at Taunton this week. He has scored 365 runs and taken 58 wickets in all forms.
McLaren's Kent colleague Azhar Mahmood returns to the top ten at number eight this week after taking 4-29 from his eight overs in the win over Warwickshire at Edgbaston. He has 639 runs and 43 wickets.
Anthony McGrath and Ravi Bopara complete the top ten.
In the Pro40 MVP Graeme Swann takes the early lead after scoring 31 and returning the excellent figures of 3-27 in Notts' victory over Hampshire at Trent Bridge.
