Panesar Top Of England MVP Table

After just two Tests it's no surprise that Monty Panesar's stellar bowling performance in the second innings at Old Trafford has catapulted him to the top of the England MVP table. Panesar's 6-37 from 17 high-class overs knocked the stuffing out of the black caps and blew the Test wide open. He has nine wickets from the two Tests and earned another valuable MVP point for the run out of Daniel Vettori.

Andrew Strauss enabled Englands's batsmen to pile through the door that Panesar had opened with a fluent 106 in the run chase. Strauss is England's leading run-scorer in the series to date with 228 runs, which sees him in second spot just two points behind Panesar.

England's player of last year, Ryan Sidebottom is four points further back in third place after another consistent display of wicket taking. The Nottinghamshire left-arm swing bowler rarely has a bad game and has already claimed ten scalps in the current series.

Sidebottom's new ball partner, James Anderson, is in fourth having also taken ten wickets but his more expensive economy rate sees him a point back.

England captain Michael Vaughan silenced the doubters with his sixth hundred at Lord's during the first Test and contributed again at Old Trafford with scores of 30 and 48. He is currently in fifth spot having accrued 184 runs.
