World Expeditions

Quote from Sir Edmund Hilary

“I continue to be impressed by World Expeditions and the commitment to giving something back to the communities of the Himalaya, a part of the world of which I am particularly fond.

I congratulate World Expeditions for their ongoing commitment to setting the highest possible environmental standards for the rest of the industry to follow”

World Expeditions is one of the world’s oldest adventure travel companies. We have been organising adventure challenges for 31 years, and we pride ourselves on pioneering itineraries that offer authentic ‘off the beaten track’ experiences. They are highly original tours, carefully designed to take our trekkers away from the conventional tourist trails, whilst ensuring safe acclimatisation to higher altitudes.

Originating as Australian Himalayan Expeditions in 1975, we focussed solely on adventures in the Himalayas, our trips in Nepal, India, Bhutan and Tibet are second to none. I would estimate that over the last 20 years we have operated well over 1000 treks in Nepal for more than 10,000 guests.

Our product range has now expanded to cover all continents of the globe, hence the change to World Expeditions. Through this expansion our company philosophy of sustainable tourism and our principles of operating unique itineraries with top quality services have remained firmly in place.

Importantly we operate our own treks in Nepal, thus avoiding the need to contract out the running of our trips to a third party. This gives us complete control of your trip and is an integral part of our total quality approach to adventure travel.

In 1985 we pioneered the training of local leaders on our Himalaya treks. These annual training courses are still very much a key part of all our guides’ training. The courses include the study of wilderness first aid and group dynamics, directed by our consultant physician, Dr Jim Duff, a recognised authority on mountain medicine.

On your trek our leaders will be equipped with a comprehensive medical kit, portable altitude chamber, two-way radio communications and, in the unlikely event of an accident, we can arrange evacuation by helicopter using satellite phones. Client safety is our priority and providing this additional safety equipment ensures we are minimising risk.

As a founding supporter of the Porter Protection Group, we are committed to ensuring that all our porters receive the best working conditions available. This includes all their food, kerosene, shelter, clothing as well as insurance on all our treks. We are also extremely aware of the environmental impact of tourism, and we have set the benchmark over many years with our minimal impact style of trekking.

If you have any questions or queries about any issues relating to our Nepal treks, or company philosophy, please do not hesitate to contact us.
