Bairstow and Buttler lead Rankings

The first men’s international series in Tests and ODIs of the summer have been played with England putting in dominant performances both in England and the Netherlands.

The Test team, now led by Ben Stokes as captain and Brendon McCullum as coach, completed a 3-0 whitewash of New Zealand. England’s new style of play produced some exhilarating cricket with Matthew Potts, Stokes and Jonny Bairstow picking up Match MVP awards.

England’s ODI side, under the leadership of Eoin Morgan for the final time, also completed a 3-0 whitewash of the Netherlands. With four players scoring hundreds and a new world record ODI score of 498, Dawid Malan, David Willey and Jason Roy won the Match MVP awards.

The Yorkshireman tops the table with an impressive 112 points and a Match MVP in the final Test at Headingley. Bairstow scored 394 runs in the series at an average of 78.8 with an unbelievable strike-rate of 120.12, the highest by any batter in a Test series to have faced more than 300 balls.

The 32-year-old producing an incredible innings at Trent Bridge in the second Test scoring 136 off just 92 balls and then getting a better than run-a-ball 162 and 71 not out off 44 balls in Leeds.

Another Yorkshireman sits high up on the list with Root in second on 101 MVP points. The 31-year-old scored 396 runs in the series at an average of 99, producing a match-winning 115 not out at Lord’s as England won the first Test. He then backed that up with 176 at Trent Bridge and 86 not out on home turf at Headingley.

New boy Potts sits third in the table with 75 MVP points and a Match MVP award in his Test debut at Lord’s. The 23-year-old picked up 36 points on his debut taking 4-14 and then 3-55. He took 14 wickets in the series at an average of 23.28.

The team’s new captain finds himself in fourth position with 68 points and a Match MVP award in the second Test for his 46 in the first innings and 75 not out off 70 balls in the second and 2-85 with the ball earning him an impressive 48 points in the game.

Stuart Broad finds himself in fifth position recalled to the side after being dropped from the West Indies series. Broad picked up 67 points in the series taking 12 wickets at an average of 35.23 which included 3-62 and 42 with the bat at his home ground Trent Bridge.

The England wicketkeeper scored an impressive 248 runs in two innings without getting out. He picked up 42 points overall and 33 with the bat. An astounding 162 not out off just 70 balls with seven fours and 14 sixes helped England on their way to that record 498, Buttler’s 10^th ODI hundred.

Opening the batting for England in the absence of Bairstow, Salt made a name for himself getting 40 MVP points. The Lancashire batter scored 248 runs in the series at an average of 82.67 and scored his maiden international hundred in the first ODI with 122 and backed it up with 77 in the second.

Malan sits in third place picking up 38 points on the table by scoring 211 runs at an average of 105.5. A brilliant 125 and 1-5 with the ball was enough to earn him the Match MVP in the first ODI. It was his maiden ODI century and he now has a hundred in every format for England.

Roy earned 37 points by scoring 175 runs at an average of 87.5. The Surrey batter won the Match MVP award, picking up 22 points, in the third game by scoring 101 not out off 86 balls, his 10^th ODI hundred. He also got 73 off 60 balls in the second game with England won by six wickets.

Willey is fifth in the table just a few decimal places behind Roy on 36.93 points in the Rankings. He picked up eight wickets at an impressive average of 15.5. He took figures of 4-36 in the second game which gave him 16 points and the Match MVP award.
