Vote opens for August Players of the Month

You can now vote for your Players of the Month for August as the top four men’s and women’s domestic players have been announced using the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings.

Warwickshire’s Ed Barnard has been extremely impressive in August and leads the MVP table. Gloucestershire’s Ollie Price occupies second place for the month as Leicestershire all-rounder Wiaan Mulder sits just behind in third. Hampshire and London Spirit spinner Liam Dawson has been exceptional and completes August’s in-form nominees.

In the women’s game, Marizanne Kapp recently picked up The Hundred Women’s Player of the Year and leads the rankings. Just behind in second place is Southern Brave all-rounder Georgia Adams who has continued her good form this season. Trent Rocket’s Nat Sciver-Brunt sits in third place with Southern Brave opener Danni Wyatt enjoying another good month.

The players are selected by the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by Argentex, which picks out the game’s top performers across every single fixture which forms the rankings for each competition, as well as an overall table which is how the top four is selected. The MVP takes into account batting, bowling and fielding contributions as well as match defining contributions using a unique algorithm developed with CricViz.

The PCA Player of the Month is decided by public here – with the poll closing on Friday 1 September at 11am.

To help make your decision on who to vote for in the women’s category, below is a quick glance at the four nominee’s achievements in August with The Hundred in the spotlight.

Oval Invincibles all-rounder Marizanne Kapp enjoyed a phenomenal month in August scoring 131 MVP points for her performances in The Hundred.

The South-African overseas player scored 147 runs at an average of 29.4, whilst taking 11 wickets at 12.5 with a brilliant economy rate of 5.9.

The 33-year-old picked up a Match MVP award against London Spirit for figures of 2-13 and 30 off 24 with that bat, earning 35 points.

Kapp finished as the second joint leading wicket-taker in the tournament and secured the most bowling points (76).

Southern Brave all-rounder Georgia Adams is nominated for the third month in succession, having amassed 127 MVP points.

The 29-year-old scored 136 runs at an average of 22.7, whilst taking an incredible 16 wickets, finishing as The Hundred’s leading wicket-taker.

Figures of 2-22 and 40 off 24 balls against Fire and an unbeaten 50 off 32 balls and 1-23 against Invincibles earned her two Match MVP awards and highlighted her all-round prowess.

The Charlotte Edwards Cup Player of the Year scored 27 in the final of the Hundred as Brave won the tournament.

Playing as a batter only hasn’t stopped Nat Sciver-Brunt from scoring well on the MVP table during August, securing 115 MVP points.

With 216 runs at an average of 43.2 and a fantastic strike-rate of 160, the 31-year-old scored the most batting MVP points during the month with 109.

The 2022 cinch PCA Women’s Player of the Year picked up two Match MVP awards, the most impressive coming against London Spirit earning 51 MVP points for a brilliant unbeaten innings of 81 off 41 balls including nine fours and four sixes as Rockets won by five wickets.

Southern Brave opening batter Danni Wyatt completes a strong top four in August, having earned 113 MVP points.

The 32-year-old finished as the leading run-scorer in The Hundred with 295 runs at an average of 32.8 and a strike-rate of 141.1, finishing five runs ahead of Hundred centurion Tammy Beaumont.

The right-hander, also nominated in June, scored three half-centuries and won two Match MVP awards in The Hundred, including in the final against Northern Superchargers when she scored 59 off 38 balls as Brave won the competition at Lord’s.

The month of August saw a combination of the Metro Bank One Day Cup and The Hundred, the later culminating in Oval Invincibles beating Manchester Originals in the final at Lord’s.

Leading the August MVP Rankings by a massive 38 points is Warwickshire’s Ed Barnard on 181.

The all-rounder also leads the run scoring in the One Day Cup so far having smashed 616 runs at an average of 77, scoring two hundreds and three fifties.

Opening both the bowling and the batting in the tournament, Barnard has also picked up 11 wickets at 24.6 with a very useful economy of 4.8.

The 27-year-old has earned an incredible four Match MVP awards. His innings of 161 off 152 balls against Durham secured 33 MVP points.

Gloucestershire all-rounder Ollie Price has been in great form in the One Day Cup, amassing 143 MVP points and taking second place in August.

The 22-year-old has scored 575 runs in the competition at an average of 82.1 and is the third leading run scorer in the competition so far.

Picking up three Match MVP awards, Price achieved a new List A career best against Derbyshire securing 22 points thanks to an unbeaten 116 off 115 balls. He also helped Gloucestershire over the line with 109 not out against Glamorgan earning a further 25 points.

Leicestershire all-rounder Wiaan Mulder enjoyed an impressive August, earning 123 MVP points.

The 25-year-old scored 374 runs at an average of 74.8 and a strike-rate of 98.7, alongside taking 12 wickets at 31.8 with an economy rate of 4.9.

The South-African claimed a Match MVP award in the semi-final of the One Day Cup against Gloucestershire producing a brilliant performance.

Taking figures of 3-38 and two catches, Mulder then scored an unbeaten 55 off 46 balls to help Leicestershire into the final and earn 32 MVP points.

Hampshire and London Spirit all-rounder Liam Dawson completes an impressive top four in the rankings with 121 MVP points.

The left-arm orthodox bowler took 17 wickets across both competitions in August with a brilliant average of 15.9.

Achieving two Match MVP awards in The Hundred and one in the One Day Cup, the 33-year-old’s most impressive performance came against Warwickshire taking unbelievable figures of 7-15 and earning 21 MVP points to take Hampshire into the final.

Dawson’s 2-19 against Superchargers earned him 29 MVP points which included seven dot balls.
