Alice Capsey secures England Women's IT20 Player of the Summer trophy.

Alice Capsey pipped Danni Wyatt to win the 2023 Women’s Vitality IT20 Player of the Summer award after finishing top of the rankings.
The teenager had trailed Wyatt heading into the final match of the six fixtures played against Australia in the Ashes and Sri Lanka in the Vitality IT20 Series, however, a wicket and a catch in the final game against the latter saw her move to the head of the leaderboard.
Capsey scored 117 runs in her six innings, with a blistering 51 off 27 balls in the first IT20 against Sri Lanka proving to be her top score as she accumulated 65.98 MVP points in total.
She also produced a vital 46 in the final IT20 against Australia as England emerged victorious in that crucial game, whilst also claiming two wickets at an average of 26 and securing three catches in total across the summer.
After receiving the award, Capsey – who also won two Match MVPs – said: “I’m obviously delighted to pick up the award. It’s a bit strange picking it up in this fashion but we had a remarkable summer against the Aussies. The way the team went about it was brilliant and to be a part of it and contribute was amazing.
“Having the responsibility to be at the top of the order is something I really take pride in and the messaging I’ve had from Heather (Knight) and Lewy (Jon Lewis) has been second to none, the backing they give me and telling me not to change what I was doing before. I’m really enjoying it.
“I want to become a permanent all-rounder in the team so whenever Heather throws me the ball it is always about trying to take the opportunity.
“I don’t think too far ahead. It’s just about taking series after series and trying to contribute in whatever way the team needs of me.”
The Vitality IT20 Women’s Player of the Summer was selected by the PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings, sponsored by Argentex. The formula takes into account expected performance on every ball according to CricViz’s extensive database. The algorithm also considers the historic performances of the venue each fixture is being played at, therefore giving a more accurate reflection of the top performers in the game than traditional batting and bowling averages do.
Opener Wyatt had led the standings leading into the final game and scored a total of 158 runs in her six knocks, the highlight being a sparkling 76 off 46 balls in front of a record crowd at the Kia Oval during the Ashes.
She also carved her way to an exciting 48 in the opening fixture against Sri Lanka as she finished with 61.66 points.
Sarah Glenn finished in third with a total of 36.55 points. She took six wickets in six appearances at an average of 19.50, with her best figures of 2-23 coming in the final match against Sri Lanka.
There is another chance for Wyatt to claim an MVP title as she currently sits in second in the Overall Women’s International MVP Rankings after several fine performances across all three formats.
The Southern Vipers player is currently behind Nat Sciver-Brunt, with the duo both set to play in the upcoming Metro Bank ODI Series against Sri Lanka.
