England Men’s players through the Team England Player Partnership (TEPP) have supported the MCC Foundation’s Global Refugee Cricket Fund through a donation of £20,000.
The Global Refugee Cricket Fund was established to aid refugees worldwide. The initial focus of the campaign is to support the ‘Pitch Our Future’ programme which aims to raise funds for the Afghanistan Women’s cricket team which was forced to disband following a ban of the sport in their country. This has forced players from the squad to flee to other countries for an opportunity to pursue their cricketing ambitions.
The Global Refugee Cricket Fund aims to raise a sum of £1 million with funding coming from a host of cricketing and non-cricketing organisations and individuals, including ECB and MCC amongst others.
"I am sure the donation will support its goal to use cricket to bring a smile to the faces of those who have been displaced across the world."

Ahead of England’s ICC Champions Trophy fixture against Afghanistan, the England Men’s squad discussed the abhorrent treatment of women and girls in Afghanistan and wanted to support. Through TEPP, a donation to the Global Refugee Cricket Fund has now been made, meaning all current England Men’s internationals have contributed.
TEPP collectively represents the contractual and commercial rights of current England Men’s players, working closely with the ECB to ensure that players’ rights are protected.
TEPP Management Board Member and PCA Chief Executive, Daryl Mitchell, said: “Having spent time in Pakistan with the England team during the Champions Trophy, it was apparent that the wider squad wanted to offer their support having been made aware of the Global Refugee Cricket Fund.
“The MCC and MCC Foundation should be applauded for the creation of the initiative, and I am sure the donation from the players will support its goal to use cricket to bring a smile to the faces of those who have been displaced across the world.”
Rob Lynch, MCC Director of Cricket and Operations, and Sarah Fane, MCC Foundation Director, jointly said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support the England men’s team have shown for the Global Refugee Cricket Fund, and particularly for the Afghan women cricketers. Their support will bring great encouragement and will have a tangible impact, and we thank the England players on behalf of those who will benefit from this contribution to the fund.”
