Ashley Giles Wins Frizzell PCA Performance Award For April — 05/05/2005

Ashley Giles Wins Frizzell PCA Performance Award For April – 05/05/2005 England spinner Ashley Giles has won the first Frizzell PCA Performance of the Month award in 2005, his 24 wickets in the first three games of the season making him the Frizzell Championship’s leading wicket-taker. Two wins and a draw have returned Warwickshire to the top of the Frizzell County Championship Division One table, as they bid to retain the title that they won in 2004 without losing a single match. Giles Ahead Of Bell Giles was voted to the April award just ahead of team-mate Ian Bell, who won the Frizzell PCA Performance of the Year Award in 2004. Bell hit 96 against Glamorgan in his first innings of this season, and followed that up with a career-best 231 against Middlesex at Edgbaston, taking his first-class aggregate to 480 for the season which is a record in England before May. Durham Nominees In Division Two, Durham’s consecutive victories have seen them claim the early season top spot, and they have been rewarded with two of their players being nominated for the April Frizzell PCA Award. Durham’s Steve Harmison and Mark Davies joined Giles and Bell among the top five nominees for the Award. Harmison’s hat-trick in his side’s win over Worcestershire caught the eye, while Davies’ spell of six wickets for nine runs in just 41 balls in the same match helped the north-eastern county to victory. Cheque Giles will receive £ 750 from County Championship sponsors Frizzell for claiming the April Frizzell PCA award. The best performances in the Frizzell County Championship are nominated each month by a panel including county PCA representatives plus ex-England bowler Gladstone Small and England Chairman of Selectors David Graveney.
