The MVP Teams of the Month for August in the men’s and women’s domestic game have been announced, using the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings.

Selected by the MVP’s unique algorithm, the sides have been picked by choosing the game’s top performers with the bat and the ball across domestic cricket in the month of August.

The men’s game saw the return of the Vitality County Championship with The Hundred and the Metro Bank One Day Cup running parallelly in August. Oval Invincibles all-arounder Sam Curran led the MVP standings over the past month, amassing 141.95 points and guiding his side to back-to-back titles. The 26-year-old picked up 65.65 batting points and 72.29 bowling points in August.

Southern Brave skipper James Vince returns to the team after a month’s absence. The 33-year-old was the leading run-scorer in The Hundred with 424 and scored the most batting points in the past month with 113.22. Warwickshire all-rounder Ed Barnard, meanwhile, had an outstanding Metro Bank One Day Cup which has seen him end August with 127.64 points.

The women’s game saw the conclusion of The Hundred and the continuation of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. London Spirit all-arounder Deepti Sharma captains the women’s side after ending the month of August with the most MVP points. The 27-year-old Indian all-rounder secured 137.12 MVP points after scoring 212 runs and picking up eight wickets in August, whilst helping London Spirit clinch the title at Lord’s.

Meanwhile, Marizanne Kapp accumulated the most bowling MVP points with 65.36. The only player to maintain a spot in the team from last month was Trent Rockets’ Nat Sciver-Brunt who was the leading run-scorer in The Hundred with a total of 303.

The PCA’s MVP system works by comparing a player’s accomplishments against the expected performance for that game. Runs and wickets achieved at each ground are also considered and compared to the average. This enables players to score or lose MVP points on every ball through CricViz’s extensive historical database, the rankings are a true reflection of performance.

The teams have been selected using a traditional, balanced side, meaning Leicestershire’s Ian Holland was an outstanding performer in the Metro Bank One Day Cup as well as Vitality County Championship. However, there were a number of all-rounders who scored more points this month.

Likewise, in the women’s game, Welsh Fire’s Jess Jonassen had a fruitful Hundred but missed out to all-rounders who accumulated more points.
