Bell Wins Frizzell Award For July — 05/08/2004

Bell Wins Frizzell Award For July – 05/08/2004 Three centuries together with a score of 96 not out in Warwickshire’s past two Frizzell County Championship matches have earned young batsman Ian Bell the July Frizzell PCA Performance of the Month award. In the Footsteps Of… 22-year-old Bell follows his County captain Nick Knight as Frizzell PCA Performance of the Month award winner – Knight winning the award in June – having scored 155 and 96 not out in his side’s win over Surrey at Guildford, and then 112 and 181 in the drawn game with Lancashire at Old Trafford. Bell, a former England Under-19 captain, already has the honour of being the youngest ever Warwickshire player to score a Frizzell County Championship century, and having been called into the England A squad which toured the West Indies in 2001, he is being tipped as an England star of the future. Cheque! Bell will receive a cheque for £ 750 from Frizzell after his performance was chosen as the outstanding one in July by the Professional Cricketers’ Association’s (PCA) county representatives. Each month, a number of performances are nominated by a panel including those representatives, England Chairman of Selectors David Graveney, and the PCA Executive. The Bears In Front Warwickshire currently lead Frizzell County Championship Division One with five matches remaining this season.
