The PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings has decided the first Teams of the Month in domestic men’s and women’s cricket for 2024.
Using the MVP’s unique algorithm, powered by Argentex, both teams have been selected by choosing the game’s top performers across domestic cricket during April.
In the men’s game, four rounds of the Vitality County Championship have been completed with Rob Yates leading the way by 20 MVP points, therefore he captains the side thanks to his 386 runs and 11 wickets. Jamie Porter has also enjoyed a strong start to the season and currently leads the MVP Bowling Rankings with 80.62 points.
In the women’s game, three rounds of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy were completed during April as South East Stars pace bowler Ryana MacDonald-Gay stormed to the top of the MVP Rankings having taken 12 wickets, securing 58.87 points, meaning she captains the women’s side. Northern Diamonds batter Hollie Armitage also enjoyed a strong start to the season, scoring 170 runs and earning 46.70 points on the Overall table.
Remarkably, the 11 selected in the April Women’s team of the month side are the top 11 on the MVP Rankings providing a truly well-balanced side.
The PCA’s MVP system works by comparing a player’s accomplishments against the expected performance for that game. Runs and wickets achieved at each ground are also considered and compared to the average. Enabling players to score or lose MVP points on every ball through CricViz’s extensive historical database, the rankings are a true reflection of performance.
The teams have been selected using a traditional, balanced side. This means that a player such as Kent’s opening batter Daniel Bell-Drummond is unfortunate to miss out due to the brilliant start to the season by fellow openers Alex Davies and Ben Duckett, both have scored more points on the Batting and Overall MVP tables. Likewise, Thunder’s Katie Mack was unfortunate to miss out in the women’s team with many other strong batting performances in April.
