Matt Henry’s spell in England has been scintillating with the New Zealand fast bowler ripping through all opposing line-ups and sitting comfortably at the top of the PCA Overall Most Valuable Player Rankings with 294.40 points.
Henry has taken a staggering 59 wickets since his arrival at the start of the 2018 campaign to help Kent to the One-Day Cup final and second in the County Championship Division two table.
The New Zealand born bowler is joined at the top of the MVP Rankings by fellow Kent players Heino Kuhn and Joe Denly whose performances in the Royal London One-Day Cup have earned them a spot in the Lord’s final.
Quarter and semi-final victories for Kent were inspired by South African Kuhn, who hit 124 not out and 127 in two unbelievable performances to place him second in the One-Day Cup MVP Rankings with 161.88 MVP Points and second in the Overall MVP Rankings 238.50 MVP Points.
Denly’s performances in the One-Day Cup recently earned him a nomination for the PCA Player of the Month for May after his hard-hitting approach took Kent through to the knockout stages and placed him top of the One-Day Cup Rankings with 163.51 points.
Hampshire’s James Vince hit 171 in the One-Day Cup semi-final against Yorkshire to take his side to the Lord’s final where they will face the aforementioned Kent.
After missing out on recent England selections, Vince has done exactly what was needed on the domestic stage and scored back-to-back List A centuries to put him third in the One-Day Cup MVP Rankings and fourth in the Overall MVP Rankings with 214.32 MVP points.
Before Hampshire and Kent face off at Lord’s for the One-Day Cup final there’s a round of Specsavers County Championship fixtures to focus on as Somerset and Warwickshire look to keep up their fine start to season as they top their respective divisions.
With only a maximum of six games played so far in the County Championship, most of the Overall MVP Rankings have been dominated through outstanding performances in the One-Day Cup.
However, the maestros of red-ball cricket will soon see their reward with two County Championship fixtures to be played before the 50-overs final and start of the Vitality Blast.
James Harris is Matt Henry’s closes competitor in the County Championship MVP Rankings after his impressive start to the season.
Having only featured in one limited overs fixture, Harris has slipped down the Overall Rankings, but remains second in the County Championship Rankings with the Middlesex bowler dismissing 24 batsmen at an average of 16.21 with 135.81 County Championship MVP points.
Closely behind Harris, sits Leicestershire’s Ben Raine who has delivered with both bat and ball so far in the County Championship. 23 wickets in five Championship fixtures and a batting average of 27.29 has shown a solid start from Raine who will be hoping to push his side further up the Division Two table.
