The PCA partnership with Royal London is now in its third year and has helped to provide valuable financial support for the range of important services that the Professional Cricketers’ Trust, the PCA’s charity, undertakes. This year the PCA has set up a Legacy Year Appeal to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the players’ union with the goal of raising £ 250,000 for the PCA Professional Cricketers’ Trust. Isobel Langton, Chief Executive of Royal London’s Intermediary Division, who presented the cheque to PCA Chief Executive David Leatherdale, said: ” We are delighted to be able to support the PCA Professional Cricketers’ Trust which does such valuable work in supporting current and past players in need. ” Working with the PCA, as they help professional cricketers plan for life beyond cricket, is a natural fit with Royal London’s core value of helping people plan for their financial futures.” The PCA Professional Cricketers’ Trust was launched in 2000 to help former and current cricketers and their immediate family members in times of hardship and upheaval or to readjust to the world beyond cricket ” We are enormously grateful to Royal London for their very generous support of the PCA Professional Cricketers’ Trust,” said David Ford, PCA Professional Cricketers’ Trust Chairman. ” Providing services to support cricketers and their family members in their hour of need is expensive and we need to raise a significant amount of money to achieve that. ” Royal London’s contribution over the last three years has been invaluable in helping us to support cricketers in need and also to fund education programmes aimed at preventing health issues in the future. ” Some of the cases that the Professional Cricketers’ Trust deals with are of a very sensitive nature and must remain confidential. But all of those we have helped are very grateful for the support of the Professional Cricketers’ Trust and for Royal London’s generosity.” The Professional Cricketers’ Trust has taken a proactive approach to helping educate players on health and wellbeing matters to help prevent problems down the line The Professional Cricketers’ Trust also supports players – past and present – and their dependants with medical advice, operations, specialist care, advice and assistance.
