Statement From Chris Taylor Of Gloucestershire CCC – 11/11/2005 I’m yet to have a formal meeting with Gloucestershire CCC regarding the captaincy, so today’s press release by the club, announcing a new captain, has caught me by surprise. My instinctive response is as follows, but I may issue a further press release when I meet with Gloucestershire next week. By any measure, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club has had a very poor season. There are a number of things we need to do to ensure a massive improvement next year, but I am not happy that the coach and club feel that one of those measures is to relieve me of the captaincy. To suggest that my captaincy of the four-day Championship side is the key contributing factor to the Club’s poor results this year is disappointing and unfair. I believe I have been let down by the management structure of the Club and given little support. Nevertheless, it is time to focus on the future. Jon Lewis will make a great replacement as captain. He is a quality cricketer with international experience and I have no doubt that he will lead us in the right direction. I am sure he will receive the support of all the players, as I did. I will put this experience behind me and move on. I am Gloucestershire player through and through and have always given everything when representing my County. I am looking forward to regaining my fitness as soon as possible and preparing for next summer so I am in a position to give 100% to Jon, my team mates and the supporters of GCCC, who I urge to get behind Jon in the same way they did me.
